You can buy a 85' ocean going boat, ready to go, for US 10.000.- a month downpayment. Personal situation requires that I sell this boat urgently!
One of Bill Garden's most interesting designs, the Nereus was designed for world voyaging independently on a large scale. This particular boat was built of steel at Western Boat Works in Tacoma Washington in 1962. The boat is for sale but it is also for hire for as little as $10,000 per month. Contact owner for details.
Since the current owner purchased the boat in 1991, it has been virtually rebuilt from the hull plating, fuel tanks renewed, interior layout adjusted for better charter option, energy systems updated and most recently with wind and solar power, new rigging and more.
This owner has put more than 100,000 miles (as the crow flies) under the keel. Personal voyages and charters have taken the boat to Europe numerous times, all over the Caribbean and into the Pacific a couple of times. Currently the boat is in Panama on the Pacific side and is ready to continue voyaging.
The owner has personal reasons for needing to sell the boat as soon as possible so it is a good time to make a deal. He is also interested in co-ownership with prospects for charter or cruising far and wide or he would consider a smaller boat as a down payment.
The price is definitely negotiable and you are encouraged to visit the boat to check everything, but don't let the year of build fool you.
This boat boasts an amazing amount of space and comfort without being exaggerated in the super-yacht ways. She is stable at sea, can carry years worth of food and supplies, is very strong and seaworthy as proven by an impressive track record of ocean travels, and this is an ideal boat for group or family ownership that could broaden horizons and provide a safe haven from the more chaotic urban centers. There is too much info to publish here so please contact the owner for more info on the yacht-independence.
1 x Diesel - Shaft drive. Original engine started when we bought the boat in 1991 after sitting unused for nearly 8 years. Rebuilt it as a precaution then. Since, it was rebuilt in 2001 also as a precaution. It was in near perfect shape. It has been a totally reliable engine and has been very well maintained. There are 3 20kw generators, 2 watermakers, central airconditioning, D gel cell battery banks, drill press, work station, compressors, water pumps and more in the standing engine room. Also a lazarette for spare parts and the steering mechanisms.
Construction: Steel construction. Since 1991, various hull plates have been changed at different stages and between major voyages. The fuel tanks were rebuilt early in this ownership as some had been sitting dry. Since 1991, we have maintained fuel levels and maintained the hull, bilges and tanks at every haul out including sandblasting a couple of times in the last 20 years.
The hulls are painted with polyurethene 2 compound paints. Primers have been epoxy based.
The boat has 5 double suites with ensuite heads and showers. 2 of these have king sized beds and 3 of these have Cruisair ac units. Forward there are crew beds for 5 plus a single bed in a mini turtleback cabin forward. This had once been the owner's daughters cabin.
Also near the forward cabin is a 2 part, walk in refrigerator room that can be taken down to freezer temperatures.
A large dining room with open fireplace and panoramic windows, a large well equipped galley, and the navigation room with double and singe berths are on the deck level. Also the king suite astern.
A top deck has the main navigation and steering station, with side benches and a dining table. This are is covered by an aluminum roof that also houses 10 solar panels and 2 wind generators. Aft on the top deck, there are the launches (a 13ft boston whaler, 13 ft classic sailing dinghy, 12ft inflatable) and a lounge area completely aft.
2011:Boat is fully refueled with 40.000 liters of diesel and 500 liters of gasoline,
READY TO GO ANYWHERE. The boat is fully functional and capable of voyaging at any time. The owner would love to have a long term charter to remote pacific destinations but otherwise, cannot single handedly maintain the boat and seeks to sell immediately or arrange for monthly+ charters, co ownership, lease for research/film, or host special events, honeymoon, secure conferences, etc onboard. The Independence can be a safe base camp away from world crisis' with sleeping for as many as 20 passengers. The possibilities are many with this extraordinary vessel.
