A centre cockpit, steel multi chined yacht which was built in 1985, Safara has been featured in many yachting magazines and a cruising book, as she is a beautiful example of her type. She has a long keel and boomed inner staysail which makes her a strong, fast boat to windward. A 6 foot bowsprit and pretty counter stern give her extra deck room, and her twin spreaders give her deck stepped mast stability. She was built to accommodate a young family and her roomy accommodation below includes, 2 heads and 3 cabins, and she has crossed the Atlantic at speed and in great comfort 3 times.
Reluctantly we have to sell her as we can no longer maintain her, due to other calls on our time, and she is dire need of a face lift. A recent ultrasound shows her hull to be perfectly sound, although decks and topsides need work to bring her back up to her former glory. Much of the new equipment needed for the refit which has not been fitted includes, new lifelines, new steering cables, new bilge pump and much more. She has a huge inventory of spares, including heavy duty ground tackle and new chain. She has an Aries wind vane self steering, an engine driven refrigerator, and a two burner Vanessa cooker.
The Perkins 50hp 3 cylinder slow rev engine is rarely run, and is professionally maintained. Power comes from 12 and 24 amp systems, and is charged from 2 on-deck solar panels. Fresh water capacity is 300 gallons amidships in 3 tanks, and 180 gallons of fuel.
The interior is mostly complete after a refit with newly varnished mahogany and all new foam in all the cabins. The galley has been refitted recently with Corian top, and new maple and mahogany.
Safara is currently on her own mooring in the BVI.
