Comments: This vessel has occasionally taken part in regattas with great success as one would expect

from the design board of Sparkman and Stephens who, at this period in their career, were

world renowned with Americas Cup and Whitbread success. However, she has not been

raced since the 1997 St Lucia Regatta, in which she won her class and beat a Swan 65

into first overall.

Eight yawls and eight sloops were built by Nautor from 1970 to 1974.

This yawl is remarkably pretty in the true classic style and the yawl rig is a joy to handle

and sail. She was originally sailed with hanks and converted to the roller furling system

but the Owner felt that on balance the cutter rig with the yankee staysail suited the hanksystem so well that she was converted back with no regrets. However, the option remains

as the Hood Bi Star is specially cut for her Reckmann furling gear and remains with luff tape.

In practice, her light air performance is remarkable with her full sail compliment of mizzen (and staysail off the wind), main and forestaysail with yankee. The latter can remain right through the wind range and safely carried in 40 knots apparent with a double reef in the main. She slices her way effortlessly through the seas. Both yankee and forestaysail can be lifted with one hand, remarkable for a 55 yacht, but then she does have a pedigree second to none.

She was purchased by the present Owner in 1988 and she is kept to a very high standard. Both keel and rudder have been improved on the original which is a recommended S&S modification of the design.
